Short Story
Tigray is the birth place of the Ethiopia’s civilization- history, philosophy, governance, patriotism, socio-cultural heritages and education. And it is the gate way and fountain of the religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) in to the country.
Despite all these assets, it has been repeatedly stricken by war, drought, poverty, diseases, and desert locust. It is believed that these events have put influence on its inhabitants to be illiterate and live under crises and challenges. Above all, the 2020-2022 genocidal war revealed almost all human evils and their damaging behavior; for example, atrocities: killing, massacre, injury, disability, rape and gang-rape, ethnic cleansing, religion and identity cleansing, psychological harassment, widespread health problems, detainment, displacement, migration, family divergence, hunger, environmental destruction, looting, confiscation, invasion, closing public services, total blockade, wiping out culture and heritages (including beliefs & practices), etc.
Then, Tigray in general has become to embrace people physically (disabled), psychologically (oppressed), spiritually (barren), socially (distanced), culturally (disintegrated), environmentally (ruined), economically (empty set) vocationally (inoperative) and morally-ethically (mal). In consequent, almost the whole region needs healing, counseling, formation and restoration. As the (99.9%) population of the region is religious- wherein around 98% is Christian, the demand is context-based; huge and very deep.
To respond to the problems and their far-reaching consequences, the Imago-Dei Counseling and Training Center has eagerly committed to work on the healing, forming, restoring, growing and developing people at individual and societal level through formative counseling and training. The way of life in Tigray makes everyone feeling painful- live with hopelessness, anxiety, uncertainty and depression and etc. Hence, its impact is quietly sure for the people are waiting to see and look the brightness of tomorrow. More than anything else, the Christian, biblical and/or spiritual, religious healing and counseling are the best curing mechanism for the deep holistic crisis in Tigray and beyond.
However, despite our heartfelt commitment and vocational calling to work on this very horrific situation, the material, professional and financial constraints detects us not to go forward. This work is God’s calling and humanity ministry. We are very humble to invite people, organizations and institutions to help and support our organization as much as they could- Dropping even a single coin to realize the programme is playing your God given work (Lk.21:2-4)- just saving the traumatized souls in the Tigray soil.
