We are going to be a part of a multi-generational team of 22 who will be serving the community of La Ramana, Dominican Republic, from June 10-17 this summer. This is a family-friendly trip where we will help meet the needs of this community, while providing our children opportunities to learn and serve in the process.
We will be using our unique gifts and skill sets to meet real needs in La Ramana, including work projects and light construction, providing a summer VBS camp program for local children and youth, serving food to the hungry, and other activities. Our primary base for serving the community will be through a local church that has two congregations; one in Spanish serving the larger community and one in Creole serving primarily Haitians. Through our connection with this local church, we are also hoping to build relationships that will set the stage for future service opportunities and trips.
It is our desire to meet the needs of this community as a practical demonstration of God’s love. Our guiding principle is inspired by these words: “let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth” from 1 John 3:18. For as Mother Theresa once said, while we may feel we cannot do great things, all of us can do “small things with great love”.
