Since 1941, Young Life has been making a difference in the lives of kids in communities in every state in the U.S. and in more than 80 countries. Young Life in Orange County has the vision of reaching the entire adolescent community. Adolescents need positive adult role models to mentor use each year. Over 76% of the kids in this part of our area are socio-economically disadvantaged, and their families need government assistance. This places a major strain on families and results in many families separated and kids having to grow up in single-family homes. The ministry has continued to maintain substantial numbers of kids over the past, which is proof that there is a significant demand for a positive, fun and relevant program specific to teens in our community.
Many adult and student volunteer leaders along with Young Life staff devote countless hours each week investing in the lives of hundreds of high school and middle school kids in the Orange County community. We believe that by providing direction, leadership, mentoring and encouragement these kids will make better decisions about life, friends, family, faith, education and their future.
Over the next few years we would like to expand our program to include more schools and more kids. A generous gift from the WD Foundation will allow the ministry to expand by strengthening and providing for our staff and allowing expansion into new high schools. Highly qualified and strongly-supported members will be equipped to train volunteer leaders to work directly with kids and further develop the funding and volunteer leader base in the community. As a result, high school kids involved in our program will benefit from engaged and responsive adult mentors and possibly become role models for other students who are struggling to find their purpose during the difficulties of adolescence.
