We are going to be a part of a multi-generational team of 22 who will be serving the community of La Romana, Dominican Republic from June 10-17th. This is a family-friendly mission where we will help meet the needs of this community, while providing our boys opportunities to learn and serve as they begin growing into young men.
We will be using our individual gifts and skills to meet real needs in La Romana, including light construction and work projects (like installing water filtration systems to bring the village clean water), providing a summer VBS camp program for local youth and serving food to the hungry. Our base for serving the community will be through a local church that has two congregations; one in Spanish serving the larger community and one in Creole serving primarily Haitians. Through our connection with this local church, we hope to build relationships that will set the stage for future service opportunities.
We desire to meet the needs of this community as a practical demonstration of God’s love, and we are inspired by these words:
· “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth” –1 John 3:18
· “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” – Mother Teresa
We have set a lofty fundraising goal of $5,148 for our family. As we prepare for the trip, experience it, and after we return home, we will keep you informed about how it all goes.
Thank you for your prayers and support—we look forward to the opportunity to serve as a family and are confident this will be a growing experience for all of us!
