Because of Hope: The Perseverance Project (Uganda)

per·se·ver·ance
noun
1. steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.

The first thing you notice in Uganda is the overwhelming conditions of life which are so vastly different than ours – one-room homes made of mud, children unable to go to school, people suffering from treatable diseases.

The second thing you notice in Uganda is incredible joy – music and dancing, laughter, kids playing in the streets, and contagious smiles.

Their challenges are real, but their hope is strong. Their obstacles are seemingly insurmountable, but their faith is unshaken. They persevere.

Because of Hope was inspired by their hope. BOH believes in empowering widows and orphans in Uganda to be the change agents in their communities. We believe in working together to achieve sustainable and holistic development. We know it won’t be easy, but the Perseverance Project is about just that – pressing on towards the goal, overcoming obstacles, and keeping faith in the things unseen.

The Perseverance Project is a collaborative effort to bring a positive and lasting change to Ugandan villages in the form of several interconnected programs. It includes our Beads Project and Student Scholarship Program, which address the immediate needs of income and education, and will address longterm sustainability through collaborative project development. Using the model of empowerment, we will combine our resources with the women’s in Uganda to help them develop projects to address the needs of their communities.

Through innovation and dreaming big, we believe change IS possible. We are ready to work together to face the challenges that lie ahead. We will persevere until these dreams are a reality.
